U7 - Initiation Program

The Timbits Minor Sports Program is a community-oriented sports program for children, age's four to six year olds. This program's philosophy is not based on winning or losing - but on learning a new sport, making new friends, and just taking time out to be a kid.

The BLACKBURN MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION'S INITIATION PROGRAM (IP) is a proud member of the Timbits Program right here in our community.  As part of this program, our teams are invited to play in the 'Timbits Jamboree', a fun-filled hockey event hosted by Tim Hortons at the CANADIAN TIRE CENTRE - Home of the Ottawa Senators.

The BLACKBURN MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION’S INITIATION PROGRAM (IP) is run on weekends from late September or early October to the end of March.  The Blackburn IP Program is run exclusively out of the Blackburn arena on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.  The Blackburn IP Program underwent an extensive re-launch for the 2016-2017 Season, which was met with overwhelming positive reviews.  The IP Program has continued to build off last season’s success with the BMHA recently purchasing cross-ice divider pads.  These cross-ice divider pads will greatly assist our IP instructors in providing the highest level of instruction and game play for our little skaters.

Our Initiation Program is divided into three categories:

  • INTRO – is targeted at children 4 years of age (and some first time skaters)
  • IP 5 - is targeted at children 5 years of age
  • IP 6 - is targeted at children 6 years of age

Our IP Program is founded on the philosophy that through the power of Sport, each child will be encouraged, supported, and challenged to maximize their respective potential as both little skaters and people.  The major technical emphasis of our program is on SKATING.  Our qualified Instructor’s will ensure each child receives proper instruction in building a sound skating foundation.
